Damswood Aquatics and Pets is owned and run by Adrian Adams and Greg Hazlewood the name coming from the last four letters of each of their surnames.

Adrian and Greg have both been managers in retail outlets, and share a common interst in all kinds of animals, between them keeping snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish, both tropical and pond.

In January 2007, Adrian had the idea to open a pet shop and Greg said "We can look into it", and so it all began.

They soon found suitable premises and everything began to fall into place, although not without a few sleepless nights. The shop opened on April 14th 2007, having been fitted out and decorated by the owners in just 11 days.

In addition to Adrian and Greg, the shop is staffed by one of Adrian's three daughters when school and work commitments allow, and they also have great support from Greg's mum and dad, without whom none of this would have been possible. This all combines to give a real family feel to the business, and it is this friendly and personal approach which has helped make the business so successful.

With the opening imminent a breeding programme was begun and the boys were soon producing rabbits and guinea pigs. This has now been extended to include mice, hamsters, gerbils and rats. Because some of the animals have been born and reared on the premises, customers can be confident that their new pets are hand tame and have been handled correctly. Equally as important is the fact that prospective purchasers know the history of the animals and can also view the parents.

In addition to the animals for sale, Damswood is also home to Ruby the African Grey parrot and Louie & Issie the collie x springer spaniel's, as well as many other anaimals that are breeding or retired.

Damswood does sell over the internet, however we believe that our strength is the high quality of personal service offered to visitors to our shop, and the individual care we give to our animals.
